At Refinery Lane, the metals we use in our pieces are important to us. We only use high quality materials that are free from nickel, lead and cadmium, so that you can enjoy your jewellery with minimal worries.
925 Sterling Silver
Made from 92.5% silver, sterling silver is known for its skin-friendly qualities. As pure silver is usually extremely soft and pliable, another metal, like copper, is added to increase its strength and make it less susceptible to breaking. We use recycled silver in both our sterling silver and gold vermeil pieces.
18K Gold Vermeil
Gold vermeil is a technique that involves plating a thick layer of gold over a sterling silver base. As pure gold is notoriously soft, we use 18K gold, which contains 75% gold, with the remaining 25% being a combination of copper and silver to make it more durable and give our pieces their distinct colour. Industry standard gold vermeil jewellery uses 2.5 microns of plating, but we use 3 microns in all our gold vermeil styles, so that they last a little longer.
